107th Easter Newsletter 2021

Date: 9th Jun 2021 Author: Alex Carter

Dear Parents & Carers,

We hope you are all keeping well.

We would like to keep you updated on what’s been going at the 107th since our Christmas newsletter.

The Beavers & Cubs continue to hold fortnightly Zoom meetings & work towards their badges & the Scouts are looking at ways in which they may be able to do some outside activities when this is appropriate. We are looking to do some online enrolling & to present The Chief Scout’s Awards to those that have earned them, soon.

The 107th Leadership Team continue to monitor the Scout Association & Bristol South District advice & guidance on how & when we may be able to return to some form of face-to-face Scouting. At the present time though, we still consider that we cannot return in a safe & meaningful way for some weeks yet.

Our biggest concerns are for the health & safety of all concerned & we are presently preparing procedures, risk assessments & equipment that will enable us to comply with   the guidelines required for a safe return. We are a relatively small volunteer group & do not have the leadership numbers to safely run face-to-face activities according to current guidelines.

Due to personal commitments, we have seen a reduction in the number of leaders at the 107th over the last few months. We urgently need to find new volunteer leaders, especially in the Cub section, which is down to one leader & the Scout section need some female leaders. If anyone is aware of anyone that might be interested in joining us, please let us know. It would be great if you could spread the word too! The 107th website should be up & running soon to help us raise awareness of what we do & attract new members.

The proper functioning of the Scout Group, also requires us to have a group of helpers (The Friends of the 107th) to assist in the running of the group. We urgently need more Members, plus a Chair Person & Secretary for this. Again, if anyone is aware of anyone that might be interested in being a part of this, please let us know.

Since January, we have had builders at the Hut completely refurbishing the toilets. We made the decision to make these accessible & they should be finished soon, so there will be a new look here when we return!

The annual Scout census in January went well. We continue to benefit from BANES council grants which will help with running costs for the next few months but we will be starting subscriptions again from September. A reminder that the new monthly subscription rate will be £12.50 (& will be reassessed periodically). Again, we would like to say a big thankyou to those parents who have continued to pay their subscriptions throughout the past year. It’s very much appreciated.

If you have any questions or thoughts, please feel free to contact us. In the meantime, we would like to take this opportunity of wishing everyone connected with the 107th Scout Group a Happy Easter.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best Wishes

The 107th Scout Group Leadership Team
